Enjoy the history of the 6911th. I served from spring of 57 to the spring of 60. Fond memories of the both the area and the work we did. I recall (hopefully correctly) that I monitored the "RLEY" net which was the Russian long range bomber group. Loved Europe and didn't want to leave but ended up going home a few months early on an emergency leave. Was active in amateur radio while in Darmstat as DL4FH. Happy to see the effort to remember the 69llth and the men who served in the USAFSS.

BARBOUR .. Glenn Barbour

I was there along with about 30 other 203XX and about 10 dittyboppers. I served from 1953 to 1957. I was also president of the "Road Hogs" MC Club on the hill and we played hell with the 14th AC in Fulda. We would take a bus to town pick up all the girls and take them to the hill for a party every first saturday of the month. The army hated us. I sure wish I could find the other members of "HOGS" or for that matter to find out about any of the detachment 3 crew. I ended up marrying a girl from Fulda, lost my clearance since I was AIC traffic analysis. I was transferred to the 303rd Tac Recon Sqdn at Sembach.

BARFIELD .. Arthur W.  Barfield. I was in the 6911th from January 1958 to July 1961. Many of us in the PWG were in Darmstadt before becoming flyers. GuterlePNS@aol.com ---Art Barfield

Dog & Able Tricks Jul 59 to Jul 62. 292 (207). Sure enjoyed finding this site and reading all the names of old friends. I served 20 years in Security Service and retired in 1975. My first tour was in the 6914th at Sembach; a year at NSA; then a tour in the 6911at Darmstadt, then a tour in in Orlando Fl with Det 3 AFSCC; then a tour on Oki in the 6927th at Onna Point; then to the 6917th in San Vito; then to Key West in the 47th. Then I went to Udorn,Thailand in Det 4, 6922nd. Then a tour in the 48th at Goodfellow. From there I went back to Darmstadt in the 6910th and helped move to Augsburg. From there back to the 48th at Kelly AFB where I retired from. Some guys I remember from Darmstadt during my first tour were : Buz Costner, Cecil Turner, Chuck Aquino, Noblin just to name a few. Every once in a while I get out old orders to look at names and try to remember faces. By the way, the mission sup on able flight while I was there the 1st time was Carl F. Stapler.

BATCHELAR .. I was on Rhein Main AB with the 6916th as a A203X0-MJ from 1968-1971. Some of my classmates from DLI were stationed at Darmstadt but I'm not sure which outfit. BATCHMO@prodigy.net

Great work on the 6911th RGM web site! I was there from June 57 to May 61 (extended tour) - I didn't know if I wanted to get out of the AF or not at the time so I reenlisted in Germany. I was on Charlie Trick as a morse intercept operator. Funny how we all have fond memories of Germany, but in reading some of the letters I sent home to my parents - I wasn't a very happy camper all the time. I'll have to dig out some of my old photos and see if I can recognize some of the old gang. I saw Bob (Lynn) Packer's entry and we were good friends while stationed there and rode together. One of my fondest memories is a two week trip to Italy on our "bikes." Five of us on BMW's - three solo's and two with sidecars. I married a great German gal from Nurnburg and we have two sons. Unfortunately, we went our separate ways in 1985 and I have remarried another German gal from Cologne (Koln) who I met in the AF. When I came back to the ZI in 61 I was put in the admin career field instead of radio and was able to bet enough college credits to be accepted into the Airman Education and Commissioning Program. Ended up "retiring" after 32 years as a Lt Col. The AF was good to me and I had a good start with my first assignment at the 6911th. Hope you can find some of the others I was stationed with. I have kept in touch with Joe Wichers who also married a German gal from Darmstadt. Keep up the good work.

It was a real pleasure seeing the 6911th and many old friends. You can certainly add my name, address and e-mail to the listing in the REMEMBERING section. I was on Dog Trick at the 6911th from 1957 to 1959 when I too, married a girl from Gross Zimmern and was sent to Ramstein. I remember many days and nights leaving the Kaserne and heading to DTown or Frankfurt. Bob Gardner, Larry Childs, Norman Cox, Tom Flatley, Ford McBride and some other great guys made our home in Litchenberg, not too far from Darmstadt. There are many super memories (some of which should not be published I suppose) of that place. I went to March Field in Calif in 1960 and went into the club field not long after that. Have been a club manager ever since. Retired from USAF in 1976, was a general manager for a club in Ark, then returned as a Civil Servant (GM-13) Club Officer in Maine and New Mexico, then got the crunch when DOD did their budget cutting. I came to Bradenton, Florida as the General Manager of the Bradenton Country Club then, and have been here ever since.

Visited your site. Spent 15 yrs, 2 mos, 10 days with Uncle Sam. All of it after tech school with USAFSS. Started out as 203  Russian but was cross-trained to 202 immediately out of school at Goodfellow. Spent two tours at Chicksands, one tour at the Agency, a short stint at an over the horizon radar research site in England, and finished up at HQ at Kelly. I well remember bleeding my #@* off on mids, swing bowling, and trying to stay up all day on that transition from mids to days. Best days of my life. Best regards!

I served in the 6911th from August' 56 through August ' '60. I was an intercept operator on Dog Trick for about a year, until the the doctors determined I couldn't wear headsets. I then started working in the Operations Control Center on Easy Trick. I left active service and got my  Masters in Electrical Engineering and worked for IBM in Rochester MN for 26 years and retired in 1990. I still live in Rochester.

I keep in touch with John Carter, Eugend Bridge, Dennis Mason, Ray Baldwin, William Morris, Eric Abraham, Cliff Smith, Larry Mote, and Rich and Pat Merrill. Three of my 6911th acquaintences, Larry Platz, Charles Bradshaw, and Sgt. Ollie Clark are deceased. I remember Robert f. Green, Thomas Goff (Ops officer), Gerald L Corwin from Wisconsin, Denzel Disney, Ralph Barton, Floyd Davis, and Charles Butler.

I feel we all have a debt of gratitude to Don Watson for creating and maintaining this website, as it has allowed me to contact a number of 6911th friends. I attended the Biloxi and Branson reunions and had a fantastic time. I have fond memories of the Darmstadt and the Kaserne where we lived. I regularily check this website and am always looking for the next reunion.

CARD ..  Stan Card, 6910th RGM and 6910th Det 1. I was in these units from 1956 to 1959.  I met my wife in Rudesheim and had to leave. There are 3 of us here in Tampa-St. Petersbug, that I know of.  One of my friends is in a nursing home.  I was in supply, one friend was a mechanic and the other was tty, but was used as the switchboard operator.  Other then these two friends of mine, I don't know of any other Bingen personnel.  I retired in 1972.  In Calif. in 1972-3 I ran into a W/O I used to work for in Bingen, we both worked for Philco-Ford. I returned to Fla and went to work for GTE and again retired in 1992.  The 6910 RGM was at Sembach in Nov 57 when I first went to Germany with the comm and supply site at Grunstadt, some kilometers away.  I spent about 6 weeks there and was transferred to 6912 RSM at the LaMarne Kaserne in Bingen a/Rhein.  The Personnel Officer was a Capt. Fike and Supply Officer was W/O Byrd.  I spent about 16 months there and then transferred to Det 1, 6910 at Camp Pieri, Wiesbaden, Dotzheim where I stayed for 18 months. My transfer to Dotzheim was a sly one. I  tried to get an extension, which had been recommend disapproved by the unit and forwarded to Group, but unknown to Fike, his clerk stuck it in a pile of papers with a recommend approval on it and he signed it and it was then sent on to Group.  It came back approved and Fike called me in confused.  He said I thought I disapproved this.  I told him I knew nothing about it, but my buddy came thru.  My wife (German) and I have been together for over 40 years now.  The receiver site was about midway between Bingen and Bad Kreuznach.  The 6912 eventually was transferred to Berlin after 1959, when I came back to the U.S.  Due to having a German wife I was out of USAFSS, but my next two European tours were Allied Forces Central Europe in Fontainebleau, France and Shape, in Paris; and Belgium.  The C.O. in Dotzheim was Capt. Otto Haenchen who went to Hqs. USAFSS.  Our Kaserne in Bingen was directly on the Rhein and the summer before I got there had the Rhein in its basement when it overflowed.  Camp Pieri was a U.S. Army post (still is) but the USAF is no longer there.

Nice to hear from guys I haven't seen or heard from in 40 or more years. Here's a little about myself for the "Remembering" section: I was on Baker trick from 1956 to 1960 (extended tour) and worked with Dom Dominique, Walt Keating, Frank Kessler, John Alaimo, Larry Moneysmith, Lenny Proietto, Al Blitz, Lenny Nadeau, Jim Hinkle, K.O. Bestul, Dave Cooper, John Collins, Jack Dougherty, Jose Romero, Jim Watkins, "Red" Cross, Max Montgomery, John Worley, Jim Mayfield, Bob Tally, (this list could go on for pages). I was in touch with Walt Keating for awhile and visited with Al Blitz and Lenny Proietto many years ago. When my wife and I married, Lenny and Jan Nadeau attended our wedding. Basically, I'm 61, full head of hair, same weight as my Air Force days, and married to the same lady for 37 years. We have two daughters and one grandson. Got my B.S., M.A., and Ph.D. and worked as a neuropsychologist at three hospitals in NY before coming down to Alabama to work as a research scientist for the federal govt. I retired in July of this year. I hold a commercial, multi-engine, instrument, instrument instructor tickets.  Owned some airplanes until it became impractical. Flew search and rescue for the CAP (USAF Auxiliary) for a few years to get back into flying. I spent many years as an electrical engineer before becoming a neuropsychologist. Pretty dull stuff compared to life in the 6911th!

.. Sam Clark. I arrived at Rhein Main in 1957 and was in the second increment of those who were "airborne" ...left there in 1964 after 7 years continuous service there (and that is another story). Was there when our C-130, 60528, was shot down and was on orders to go there on that flight when our softball team lost in the finals and we took their place...and then they made the ill-fated flight to Turkey and its downing. Desire to have things recalled? I remember them ...each and all...as yesterday. Sam Clark,  sams.ddpo@worldnet.att.net  formerly an "Admiral" on the B-50's and later C-130's, then an"AMS" after a real Admiral was introduced to us. Was at "Command" for about two years with Maj Shively ('Gear-up') and Capt Wolinsky.
P.S. Is there an E-Mail list of the old 6916th'ers? I visited SAC off and on over the past 17 years and used to stop in and have a beer with them from time to time.

I am his daughter, Barbara. My Dad passed away Oct of 1976. Finding the 6911th site is quite emotional experience as it has me remembering my Dad . We were stationed in Darmstadt 1955 to 1959. We had previously been in Chicksands, England and before that we were with Dad at Sembach, Germany. Dad had flown as a radio operator out of England during WWII. I never realized that the odds were so against those guys until I saw the movie the Memphis Belle. Dad only talked about the funny things that happened to them. I never realized he was such a hero just by climbing in the plane as a radio operator (and sometimes machine gunner as he used to put it) He was stationed at Rhein Main after the war (we just had tents set up in those days, he would say) and met and married my mother, who worked at the base exchange. He flew in the Berlin airlift. After Darmstadt we were in San Angelo, Tx from 1959 to 1962. (My only experience with stateside schools). Then we packed up and went to Clark AFB, PI from 1962 to 1965. I remember Saigon being evauated of dependents. Clark was a stop off point for a lot of them. From Clark we went to San Vito AS , Italy from 1965 to 1968. We all loved it there. From there Dad went to Kadena, Okinawa and then back to San Angelo, Tx where he retired, I think it was in 1973. He was a farm boy at heart and the only thing he wanted to do when he retired was to buy a few acres and raise registered cattle. Like all farm boys he would talk your ear off if he could get you to listen. He wasn't shot down in a plane, or held as a prisoner of war, but he will always be a hero to me....an unsung hero.

My sister E-mailed me the letter she sent to you and it brought tears to my  eyes. We both loved him and keep fond memories. When we were kids he used to tell us that he was a janitor....whenever other kids bragged about what their dad's did. We never knew what he did.....so I joined the Navy...yep in the security service and found out. If you know anything about the Navy...I was a CTM...cryptological technical maintenance. I would have joined the Air Force but I was too old. If you ever had contact with my dad please let me know....would like to hear from you....

I started to scroll through your Hessen, Germany site and at the very bottom I was surprised to find your connection to USAFSS. Small world! I was a 20250 and served from 1963-1967. After tech school at San Antonio and San Angelo I had a tour at Tuslog Det 94 (Karamursel) and one with the 6940th. I'm still working in the business, but as a civilian, DoD employee. Thats all, just wanted to say thanks for putting the site together. Maybe we'll meet at a USAFSS reunion.

DEROUSSE .. Oh yeah, lived up on the top floor of one of the old cavalry barracks.. Still remember the damn ditty boppers talking to each other by sending morse code via pounding on the radiators!!! Was in the 10th there. Went by last spring, but didn't stop.. I might have some pix. May even be able to find an aerial pic of the site. In '66 I was a PI in France and I targeted the site for a practice mission by a 101 Voodoo.. I'll look.. ---Skip DeRousse, Day Analyst, 6910th, 64-65 kg5pa@swbell.net

I served 6 months at the 6913th RGM in Bremerhaven before being sent to the 6911th RGM in the summer of 1958.This was the best thing that could have happened. Ron Westgate and I came together. He was on Dog Trick and I was assigned to Baker. I roomed with Thom Jefferson, my roommate in language school at Syracuse. I remember a lot of good people: Bob Dominique, Larry Moneysmith, Buffington, Bob Plimpton, Porky VanFossen, Joe Coonan, a super boss, in radio printer, John Crawford, Bill Karakis, a young guy named Sykes. Bob Dominique and Thom Jefferson married German ladies. Bob lives in New Orleans and Thom lives in the country south of Dallas. I live in Fort Worth. I retired form the Fort Worth Independent School District in 1994. You have a super cite. I enjoy it very much. I would love to hear from others. I'm in contact with Larry Moneysmith, also.

I was known in those days as Dom.. I was in the 6911 RGM from 1956-1960. I served with Lenny Proietto, John Collins, Vincent Liccardi, Benny Deuson, Tom Jefferson, Joe Cloonan, Bill Clark, Lt Simpson, Carl Lungren, ____ Keating, Billy Livingston??, and a lot of others I have faces for but don't remember their names, after all this was 40 something years ago!
I married a german girl, we have two sons, Michael is a Major in the Army, Andrew is working here locally. After Germany I was stationed at Barksdale AFB, Bossier City, La., SAC, in Base Communications sending and receiving teletype messages. Never did make A/1C so I got out in 1962, joined the Army, then back to Ansbach, Germany, near Nuernberg. I spent a lot of time in the field, left in 1966 to Officer Candidate School, shipped over to Viet Nam Oct 1966 as a 2nd Lt I ran truck convoys in the Centeral Highlands for a year, was Air Evac'ed to Ft Sam Houston Tx, promoted to 1st Lt,  a year later made Captain and served as a Company Commander, 1967 to Thailand running a truck company, Air Evac'ed to Japan, then to Ft. Polk. I went to the Transportation Advanced course at Ft. Eustis and was stationed at the Army Port in New Orleans. In 1972 I received orders to go to Germany but was caught up in a reduction in force, offered disability retirement. Now I putter around the house and mess with the computer. I have 3 grand daughters. I am in contact with Benny Deuson, from Texas. Thomas Jefferson, Texas, and Vincent Liccardi, Nevada.

Trying to find anything about the 6981st at Elmendorf. I was there from 68 to 70. Took my training as a 202 at Goodfellow (where else) in 1968. After 2 years at Elmendorf I was assigned back to Goodfellow with the 6948th Mobile Alert Sqdn. Have lost track of a lot of good people. Am presently working as a civilian Calibration Tech at the 30th Space Wing PMEL (Precision Measuring Equipment Lab) on Vandenberg AFB CA. The weather here is perfect. Don't have to shovel snow and we don't bake in the summer. Drop me a line. I would love to hear from anyone who was in USAFSS the same time I was. Thanks for doing this site.

I was originally stationed at Rhein Main, but they had an overage so I was transferred to Darmstadt after two weeks. I arrived there Jan 60 and Departed Nov 62, Able flight as a 202. Kim Larson was my supervisor and Bill Gately was the NCOIC. Bill left and Harvey Pehacek took over, then Kim left and Charles Acquino took over. I put in my papers to get married in 1962 and was transferred to Easy flight in June. Married Ursula Bremberger in Sep 62 (still married after 41 years). I separated in Nov 62 and then re-enlisted in Sep 63. Went through the AECP program at Univ of Colo and went to OTS in Jan 72. Retired as a Major in Jan 1986. Some of the guys I hung around with were: Alan Dicker, Jim Thompson, Arnie Rose, Joe Bedard and others whose names escape me right now. Once dated the girl who sold the newspapers in front of the Chow Hall. Remember her? She was a welcome site at 6am after a long Mid. She had the nicest legs. She ended up marrying a LtCol. So far, I have contacted Red Barthel, Kim Larson, Bill Gately, Harvey Pehacek, Jack Dennard and Tom Scarborough.

I was in the 6911th RSM/RGM from Jan 56 to Nov 59, CW op on Dog Trick. I remember well those eight in the morning beer calls at Frau Linders after a mid shift. I remember the many walks to Karl's just outside the front gate for a "schinken und brot" after sleeping thru evening chow. Some of the 56-57 era guys I remember and often wonder about are, Gene "Sloppy" Swearingen, Tom Costner, Willard "Mr A" Adkins, "Chief Porter", "Termite" Olnhousen, Jake Raabe, "Humpty",  Chuck Hemler, Frank "Duck" McSwan. Plus many of the "newer" guys, Rich Merrill, Harold Jones, Murl Stafford, Frosty, Macarrone, Spangler, Hillen, Bridge, Charlie Bradshaw, Neely, Childs, Blasenhauer, and many more. This site has help put me back in contact with some of these folks! I remember meeting streetcars on "suicide alley" in Jacob Bruckmann's Mercedes bus. Close enough to make you lean away from the windows! I'm really looking forward to a reunion! Wouldn't miss it for the world!

I am posting photos at my website, mine and anyone else who wants to post photos, as long as I have the server space.  If you have a website, perhaps you can provide a link to it from your site. A few of us have been searching for more members and been having some luck. Will pass on some addresses later on. I received the news about the reunion from Charlie Bradshaw. I was in the 2nd RSM from January l954 until I came home in September l956. I was assigned to the Direction Finding Unit for Baker Trick. I was a morse code operator and my voice partner was Manuel T. Lopez. I served during the life of both groups. I have just recently obtained a computer and lucked out on finding the webb site of the 69llth RGM. The 2nd RSM designation tends to stick with me more that the later name. Walter Keating told me about your web site. I was C/W and SIT. I arrived in Darmstadt in early of 1958, was assigned to Baker trick and promptly was put under the tutelage of Walter Keating and Dean Parnell. I have stayed in touch with Walter ever since, but, lost contact with Dean. Got to know Mike Orr well, as we were both sport car nuts...have photos of him getting delivery of his Porsche at the factory. Did a lot of rallying, using John Efford as my navigator...still have the trophies. I remember Larry Moneysmith and his "temporary bedroom" after his trips to Frankfurt. I roomed with Pete Garland, John Alaimo and Joe Geissen ( I think that is the right spelling, he was from upper Michigan) After being well trained by Keating and Parnell, moved onto the SIT area, replacing Lenny Proietto at the DF site when he left. I left the 6911th in March of 1961, going into the civilian world of aviation, spending 26 years flying for Eastern Air Lines. When they departed in 1991, I flew for various carriers, actually spending a lot of layover time in Darmstadt. Have been back to Cambrai-Fritsch many times in the last nine years...it has changed a lot, most of the time there are no guards at the front gate and when there is a security alert, they use the back gate to screen everyone. The old operations building is now a school! The quadrangle is still there...the site of the famous "mutiny"...What a night! Many fond memories came back while walking around the barracks. Who would have thought that a Pizza Hut would be on the property? Would love to hear from Mike Orr, if anyone knows his whereabouts.

I got your info about the 6911th reunion in my DAV magazine. I served with the 6934th at Tripoli and 6930th at Crete in the 50s. I remember Captain John Vinay was my OIC at Kelly and later my flight cvommander at Crete. I joined the Air Force at Sampson NY, morse intercept at Biloxi, interceptor at Tripoli, T/A at Kelly and NCOIC at Crete and discharged at SC in 1959. I reenlisted in the Army Security Agency and retired in 1974. If John Vinay attends your reunion give him my regards. He appointed me his assistant for the Boy Scouts, and I was the only individual at Crete who created havoc for the Fire Department. Personal chuckle between he and I. Take care and Keep The Faith.

Served in Damstadt 1957 on Dog Trick. There were three of us that hung out constantly, Jim Brand, Norman Cox and myself. Of course there were many other friends on our trick - O'Brien, Flaherty, Childs.
29250 Intercept operator. Married a German girl - they kicked me out of the 6911th and set me down to Ramstein AFB in a communication squadron. Jim Brand my buddy soon followed - he too married a German gal. Got out of the Air Force in 1964 - stayed 8 1/2 years then went to work for AT&T for 27 years, took an early retirement and now work out of my home in the Network marketing business. When I got out in 1964 could have gone with NSA in Maryland but decided not to.

6911th 1958 to 1961. Spent three wonderful years in the 6911/6910, from 1958 to 1961, after eight years as a gunner on the B-36. Wanting to stay home a little more, I retrained into the 202 field, while not having the slightest idea what kind of work I was getting into, nor could anyone tell me. I loved it, and enjoyed the stimulation and the camaraderie of many good people. I was the T/E Controller of the "Fightin' Able Aces" for most of my time there, and went on to the 6925th and JSPC before retiring as a MSgt. If you were there during my tenure, on any flight, you may remember me as the guy who sold you all of those beer mugs you used as coffee cups, and the big steins you took home with you. Cecil Turner was a great friend of mine. New entry: Cecil is a Fallen Hero.

I am now a retired pediatrician. I want to tell you about  Bob Oshinskie , who was on the ill fated C-130 that was shot down over Armenia, was stationed with me at Landshut before he moved to Rhein-Main. On the night of Feb 27/28 I was to work the midnight shift on "the hill".  I had no sooner gotten to work than I was called to come back because my wife was going into labor. It was the day before payday and I was broke. When I presented my case of poverty to all those airmen there was only one who responded. Bob loaned me ten dollars to make the trip. I was also on Dog Shift (ditty bopper) at Darmstadt (57-59). I was a two striper and worked out at the DF site with a 203 by the name of George Driscoll. (He was from Mass, and I always wondered what happened to him.) He left Darmstadt after I did, sometime in 60, I think. I came from Shemya to finish out my enlistment there at Damstadt. I didn't get to know too many of my fellow Dog Trickers because of working away from the operations and the short time I was there. When we weren't working, we were drinking that fine beer and partying. I really enjoyed my short 20 months or so stay there. I went back to Darmstadt on a short TDY from Crete in 71 and the operations was still about the same, but as you know the surrounding area had already gone through quite a change. I retired from the AF twice. I hung up the blue suit in May 81 and civilian suit, Jan 95. Thirty eight and one half years was about enough. I now reside in Ocean Springs MS.

Darmstadt from 1959-61. And also at Goodfellow AFB 1961-63. I was working at McDonell Aircraft in St. Louis in 1958 when I got my draft notice. I joined the AF and left for Lackland AFB; it was so crowded they sent me to Keesler AFB MS to finish basic. I spent 9 mos there in the Ground Communications Equipment Repairman Light School. They ran me through that screening process for the Security Service, then I was assigned to Darmstadt. I started working in the Electronic Maintenance shop. Our first son was born in Frankfurt in Feb, 1960. I was discharged as a S/Sgt. We still look back on our time in the service with many fond memories and still keep in touch with several of our friends. Thanks for your taking the bull by the horns and ram-rodding this project!

Greetings! I was in the 6911th from April 77 to Feb 82. While I was there, we introduced the Comfy Levi to the European theater, as well as some other airborne programs. It was around late 81, early 82 that the 11th was subordinated to the 6910 ESW under Col Mike Christy. I moved from Hahn to Wiesbaden to set up a detachment under the 10th, but remained connected to the 11th. I look forward to seeing this site develop further.

I was with the 6910th at Landsberg. Lots of our guys went to and from Darmstadt. We were Crypto and Crypto maintenance. We also had guys from the 12th RSM with us. The 6910th will hold a reunion September 9-11 at Asheville NC this year. We will hold one in San Antonio TX in 2000, no date yet. The Neu Braunsfeld German community is near there, and that is where it will be. The 6910th Newsletter is available from Ray M. Thompson, 1120 Eton Drive, Richardson TX 75080. We have caps, T-shirts for 6910. The 12th RSM is holding its reunion the same dates, September 9-11, 1999. The guys can contact me for details. We were in Germany from the early to mid-1950s. I left in 55, got my discharge at Tinker AFB, Oklahoma.

I was informed about the site and sites by an old 6911th buddy and later college chum (Univ of Maryland) College Park, Larry Mote. I have rarely been so moved, memories, feelings, pictures of an exhibition of my past, stuff I will now share with my kids and grandchildren. I am pleased that there is a bonded group and that it has been having reunions and contact and care and giving recognition for proud deeds and sacrifices. I was an Intercept Analyst, 6911th 9-56 thru 9-59. I arrived just before the Hungarian Revolution and spent most of my three years on Easy, though I had stints on Baker, Charley and Dog. I was the last Airman to resist paying for the increase in the mess fee, and I served CQ and KP for weeks exhibiting my natural stubborness. I am delighted, pleased and most thankful that the 60528 team has been recognized and memorialized. My closest friends were Bob Brink, Bill McWilliams, David Janovici, Al Plum, Kenny Parks, Walker Peterson, Gary Pickersgill, Larry Mote, Sgt. Frank Kramer, Sgt. Clifford B. Smith and the Morris' who taught us whist and how to make slushburgers. Thanks to Larry and Gary for "rediscovering" me. I went back to the ZI in May of 1958 to marry my childhood sweetheart, Elaine, and return to Darmstadt. We lived at 24 Klingsacker Strasse in Eberstadt. Klingsacker is now called "von der Au Strasse." We have been back four times to visit our landlord then and friends for forty years, Hanni and Werner Thill, most recently for their 50th anniversary in the summer of 1998.

HENNESSY .. I was at the 6911th from May 1960 - May 1962. I was a 3Der who went to the 6986th Wakannai, Japan. In 1964, I started work at NSA and retired in Dec. 95. My first day at work at the 6911th, the U-2 was shot down. I asked "do folks run around here like chickens with there head cut off all the time"? I was not a member of the 6911th but was at the 6912th RSM, Bingen/Rhine during that period. I am sure that some of them I knew either in Tech School at Keesler, we had some go to Darmstadt from Bingen. I was in Bingen from July 55 to Mar 59 as an intercept operator when I filed papers to marry a German girl and was placed on adminstrative duties in the First Sergeant's office, M/Sgt William Neal. Some of the great men I knew in Bingen were Tony Vitullo (now on police force in Philadelphia PA), Ed Morrow who owns a furniture business in Eupora MS, Paul Fisher who is a psychiatrist in New York City, Benny Parson from PA, Donald Goodyear from Snowshoe WVA. I retired from the Air Force in 1974 with the DCA, then joined the Social Security Administration in Birmingham AL as Director of Telecommunications for SE USA, retired in 1995. Would love to hear from anyone.
